It’s that time of week again. Anyone for a writing experiment?
With all the new tools out there to monitor book sales and blurbs mentioned about their books, I’m going to highlight a new book each week. I’ll post it in the morning. If by the end of the day that author finds her book on this post I want her or him to tell us how they discovered it; word of mouth through the close network of writers, a Yahoo group mention, or through some new fangled Google tool.
Now, how will I choose this book each week? It will be a book that caught my attention. As a reader, I will keep an eye out for something that either provoked me to read the blurb, look at the author’s blog, or purchase said book.
Before I reveal my choice I want to clarify that this author has no idea that I’ve chosen his/her book.
The book I noticed was: That Which Should Not Be by Brett J. Talley
Miskatonic University has a long-whispered reputation of being strongly connected to all things occult and supernatural. From the faculty to the students, the fascination with other-worldly legends and objects runs rampant. So, when Carter Weston’s professor Dr. Thayerson asks him to search a nearby village for a book that is believed to control the inhuman forces that rule the Earth, Incendium Maleficarum, The Inferno of the Witch, the student doesn’t hesitate to begin the quest.
Weston’s journey takes an unexpected turn, however, when he ventures into a tavern in the small town of Anchorhead. Rather than passing the evening as a solitary patron, Weston joins four men who regale him with stories of their personal experiences with forces both preternatural and damned. Two stories hit close to home as they tie the tellers directly to Weston’s current mission.
His unanticipated role as passive listener proves fortuitous, and Weston fulfills his goal. Bringing the book back to Miskatonic, though, proves to be a grave mistake. Quickly, Weston realizes he has played a role in potentially opening the gate between the netherworld and the world of Man. Reversing the course of events means forgetting all he thought he knew about Miskatonic and his professor and embracing an unknown beyond his wildest imagination.

This book was a recommendation via Goodreads. I’ll actually be shocked if Mr. Talley finds his book as I’m unable to locate him on Twitter, FB, etc… I’d noticed this book before but it set in my recommends section on Goodreads for awhile. I noticed it again today when I was looking around to see what book might catch my eye. Well, I decided to read the blurb and I was intrigued. After looking over the reviews and ratings I was convinced I was interested. I’ve always liked spooky and suspensful tales so I think I’ll give this one a try.
What do you think? Does it intrigue you? Have you read it?

This does sound like an intriguing story, but like you I haven’t heard of the author before.
Maybe he will stop by today to introduce himself. I believe this is his debut novel. It has received some fantastic reviews.
Never heard of book or author before. Sounds intriguing but I’ll wait for the movie–or who knows, if I run across the book somewhere maybe I’ll find time to read it. It’s not my usual reading fare.

I hope some of you pick up the book, and I would love to know what you think. I have included my twitter and facebook pages below since I am difficult to find.
